RESEARCH

Follow This uses evidence-based research to craft climate resolutions and partner with top universities to drive real corporate change.

Why Research Matters

Research is a cornerstone of Follow This’s work. It forms an important pillar of our advocacy efforts and provides the evidence base behind our resolution filings.

Shareholder activism sits at the intersection of finance and the environment, and effective advocacy depends on understanding both sides of that equation: the financial mechanics of proxy voting and resolution filing, and the climate science and environmental accountability standards that our resolutions are built on.

Research is what allows us to bring these two worlds together credibly.

How research strengthens our work

  • It grounds our shareholder resolutions in robust, evidence-based analysis, and helps us benchmark corporate climate commitments against credible pathways and independent standards;
  • It deepens our understanding of the intersection between shareholder activism and environmental accountability, helping us translate climate science into resolutions that investors can act on;
  • It allows us to track proxy voting patterns and map the many different actors that shape the shareholder activism landscape;
  • It informs our engagement strategy with investors, companies, and policymakers, strengthening the legitimacy and impact of our advocacy.

Academia and engagement

Beyond our own research, Follow This maintains a strong presence within academia. We regularly give lectures at some of the world’s leading universities, including Oxford, NYU, and the University of Amsterdam, among others, sharing our expertise on shareholder activism, proxy voting, and climate accountability.

We are always open to research collaborations and academic engagement. For any research partnership or academic enquiry, please contact our Head of Research Kaja Jakubiec.
